Tooth Extraction
A tooth extraction is the removal of a badly broken or decayed tooth
with a poor prognosis. The removal of a tooth is performed under local
anesthesia and/or laughing gas (nitrous oxide). These options as well as
any possible surgical risks will be discussed with you before the procedure
is performed.
Once the tooth is removed, the gum may be sutured, depending on the difficulty
of the extraction. To help control bleeding, continue to bite down on gauze
placed in the mouth. You will rest under supervision in the office until
you are ready to be released. Upon discharge, your post-operative kit will
include post-operative instructions, a possible prescription for pain meds
or antibiotics and a follow-up appointment in one week for suture removal.
